Have you ever experienced life as a solo geek?
I don't think there's another human like us in a 100 mile radius. My kid and I are getting by on Guild Wars and Final Fantasy.
Any experience to share?

Re: Geekless?
Fri, May 25, 2007 - 11:57 PMI'm in a land where geek girls are in such high demand, that they are free to break hearts with impunity. -
-
Re: Geekless?
Sat, May 26, 2007 - 12:04 AM...wait...are you in the Bay Area? We're in high demand?
Shewt.
It must be just me then. -

Re: Geekless?
Sat, May 26, 2007 - 4:02 AMI'm in Europe at the moment, where the geeks hide indoors so you truly feel alone!

Re: Geekless?
Sat, May 26, 2007 - 9:34 AMAre you single? I demand, highly, that we go on a date ;-) -
-
Re: Geekless?
Sat, May 26, 2007 - 11:20 AMAhh Hah! Well I haven't been public about this, and I don't want to jinx it, but after several non-matches, I have started dating someone who seems to fit.
So as much as you have thrown down the proverbial gauntlet, I cannot accept. :( Sorry I mislead. -

Re: Geekless?
Sat, May 26, 2007 - 7:21 PMCase and point!
Alas, one less geekess. The wading pool that is geekessdom just got that much shallower. *sniff*

Re: Geekless?
Sun, May 27, 2007 - 3:01 AMI reside in a small mud hut in the swamps of East Texas...there's few people in general in my vicinity, much less the ever elusive geekess. I've managed to locate a few other geeks to mingle with, but alas, we all have different geekly interests. However, such a team-up makes us extremely dangerous adversaries in the trivia arena. mwahahahaha :-) -

Sun, May 27, 2007 - 7:39 AMThat has always been my theory about unmatched geeks. -

Re: However, such a team-up makes us extremely dangerous adversaries in the trivia arena.
Sun, May 27, 2007 - 3:30 PMThe geeks in SEATTLE don't appear to be too PROACTIVE about being UNIFIED...
Seems like only the TRANSPLANT GEEKS are the ones who really "get after it."

Re: Geekless?
Fri, June 15, 2007 - 9:46 AMThis all reminds me of the Devo geek anthem "We're Through Being Cool"....
WE'RE THROUGH BEING COOL
ELIMINATE THE NINNIES AND THE TWITS
GOING TO BANG SOME HEADS
GOING TO BEAT SOME BUTTS
TIME TO SHOW THOSE EVIL SPUDS WHAT'S WHAT
IF YOU LIVE IN A SMALL TOWN
YOU MIGHT MEET A DOZEN OR TWO
YOUNG ALIEN TYPES WHO STEP OUT
AND DARE TO DECLARE
SPANK THE PANK WHO TRY TO DRIVE YOU NUTS
TIME TO CLEAN SOME HOUSE
BE A MAN OR A MOUSE
WASTE THOSE WHO MAKE IT TUFF TO GET AROUND
IF YOU LIVE IN A BIG PLACE
MANY FACTIONS UNDERGROUND
CHASE DOWN MISTER HINKY DINK
SO NO TRACE CAN BE FOUND
PUT THE TAPE ON ERASE
REARRANGE A FACE
WE ALWAYS LIKED PICASSO ANYWAY
MASH 'EM

Re: Geekless?
Mon, September 3, 2007 - 2:25 AMI get the impression that the ones in Reno are in some underground bunker and their is someone at the door and I do not know the password. -
-
Re: Geekless?
Sun, September 9, 2007 - 1:01 PMI Thought only I had a bunker!
"They are coming to get you Barbara!"
Only George Romero fans understand that LOL -

Re: Geekless?
Thu, September 13, 2007 - 8:41 AMi secretly and surreptiously turn non-geeks into geeks as one of my hidden super powers. Bwhahaaa -
-
Re: Geekless?
Thu, September 13, 2007 - 8:42 AMso like i find like this totally hot guy, covered in tattoos who likes to work outside and make him come over to play scrabble with me! HA! genius! -
-
Re: Geekless?
Fri, September 21, 2007 - 7:22 PMoooh, my kingdom for a bunker.
I'm resigned to being the only adult geek for many miles (my kid is a geek, too, so at lest I have a little company).
Which means I'm doomed to remain a single geekess.

Re: Geekless?
Sun, September 23, 2007 - 5:11 PMI've no idea where the geeks be in my part of So.cal. Perhaps its because 90% of them are married or too busy playing games to socialize or worst still (when you live in/near two major Universities) too young for your tastes.
I'm surviving by URU, my horse, gardening and staring at my Bus wishing for it to complete itself.

Re: Geekless?
Mon, September 24, 2007 - 7:32 AMWorse here on east coast, try being a geek and a history re-enactor! Been so long since i have had a date i have forgotten the rules! -
-
Re: Geekless?
Mon, September 24, 2007 - 6:45 PMAwesome. Which history? I myself have decided to do the Ren Faire for kicks. Seems a right nice place to find like minded individual weirdos.
Would be great if I could do some stuff with my horse as well.
Anyway, good luck! -

Re: Geekless?
Sun, October 28, 2007 - 12:20 PMI did the Ren Fair + horse thing when younger. I recommend it highly for you and kiddo both.
I'm in the Bay Area, just moved here from the east coast and I'm feeling really alone in my geekness. Everyone here is into this wine/cheese Napa snoot thing. I drink hot chocolate (occasionally with Baileys MMMM) /cry
Being a female geek isn't easy, people look at you like a friek when you burst out a room you've been holed up in for hours yelling "its ALIVE its ALIVE" - referring to that machine you've been bent over mumbling and occasionally cursing at.
Err plus I play Warcraft...which just about everyone I know cannot relate to. At least my kiddo like it! His first games were running around playing orc with his sword and screaming Zug Zug :)
So I hear you on the being alone out there, though I'm not a 100 miles from nowhere anymore.

Re: Geekless?
Sun, October 28, 2007 - 1:30 PMWhat part of the Bay are you in (not that I mind wine and cheese, but I don't know many others who do <lol>)? 'Round here, nobody looks twice at a girl playing WoW, or knowing waaaaay too much about Trek <cough>, or computers, or whathaveyou. You'll have to hie yourself to the next Geeky event that PaulaC whips up...we've got a really nice bunch of geeks in this tribe : ). At any rate, welcome back, and welcome to GD! -
-
Re: Geekless?
Sun, October 28, 2007 - 1:54 PMYes ok you have me, I grew up on Trek /blush
I'm out in the Benicia area, and I brought my job with me (telecommute) so I don't get out of the house a whole lot. And when I do well..these hills are killing me!
Stop laughing ~ . ^ -
-
Re: Geekless?
Sun, October 28, 2007 - 7:19 PMYou are the wrong gender for me, sorry, but I'm in El Sobrante, not too far from you. do not despair! there are tasty pockets of geekiness all around you.
-
Re: Geekless?
Sun, October 28, 2007 - 7:57 PMHaha...I was talking about *me* with the Trek geek thing ; ). But we can compare notes some time! Do you have all of the Xmas ornaments? A Star Fleet Academy class ring? Been to more than three StarCons? If not, you have nothing to worry about around here <lol>.
I had the chance to visit with several of my geeky pals this evening, and it was AWESOME. Hours of conversation in which people *understood* running one's life by the roll of a d20 <lol>, who could quote the lastest SouthPark and The Holy Grail, who geek on Heroes and can't wait for Battlestar to get going again so we can have a Premier Party again. It was so nice : ).
Benicia is gorgeous, and really only 25 minutes from here, so meeting up for a geeky film or event isn't right out, once you get to know and love us : ).

Mon, October 29, 2007 - 7:20 AMIn Society Im Iron Age Celt, but do later period as well when needed. I just love my loose shirts and trews too much. Some areas allow equestrian, just need the insurance riders for it (renfaire doesn't) -
-
Re: Geekless?
Wed, October 31, 2007 - 5:50 AMrennfaire rocks!!! :-) I found my awesome geeky match on yahoo personals of all places... total fluke! -

Re: Geekless?
Tue, November 27, 2007 - 10:23 AMLucky you. I haven't had any luck with any sort of online service. Craigslist is usually a bust, and while I've met some friendly people on Tribe, nothing resembling a date resulted. I'm not really that lonely though, so I can't complain.

Re: Geekless?
Mon, December 3, 2007 - 8:39 AMHey Kenny,
Welcome to the Geek Dating tribe. I hope you find this place conducive to finding your geek girl. If you do spend that much time on the computer, please feel free to strike up a conversation here. We all used to banter quite a bit here, but it seems that the 'Donut' Days have quelled the spontaneous conviviality. I will endeavour to stoke the fires here again in order to grease the geekey datey process. :)
